Rocco Commisso: The Emperor with No Clothes - and No Cosmos
When I look at Rocco B. Commisso, I don’t see a visionary or a savior — I see a businessman who thought he could control football forever and is now discovering he can’t.
Here’s a man who spent nearly five years sitting on one of America’s most famous soccer brands — the New York Cosmos — and did absolutely nothing with it.
He never built the team up.
He never let the fans back in.
He just kept the name locked in a cupboard, hoping nobody would notice.
And when someone like me finally had the guts to do something — someone like me stepping up to give the Cosmos back to the people — what did Rocco do?
He sent his lawyers.
He went to Wefunder, one of the biggest crowdfunding platforms, and leaned on them with empty threats.
And what did they do?
Wefunder — No Questions Asked
And Wefunder? They folded the moment they felt heat.
No questions asked.
No attempt to check the facts.
No interest in hearing my side.
They pulled the plug on a fan-driven campaign because Rocco’s lawyers sent them a threatening letter.
That’s not supporting innovation — that’s looking after their own skin.
Twenty-five people who believed they could own a part of their club were told they couldn’t — not because Rocco had a plan, not because there was a real legal issue, but because Wefunder decided to protect themselves first and foremost.
That’s the state of this game. Billionaires can snap their fingers, and platforms jump — even at the expense of real fans.
And if that’s not a wake-up call about where this sport is going, I don’t know what is.
A Record of Losing and Lashing Out
And let’s talk about Rocco’s record.
He took U.S. Soccer and MLS to court — and lost.
He’s been publicly called out by Fiorentina fans, who have had enough of his style of leadership and made their protests clear.
Italian journalists haven’t held back either — they’ve called him out for lashing back at critics instead of fixing the problems.
And then there are credible reports that he even stooped to using a burner account to attack U.S. soccer and MLS executives online.
That’s not the behavior of a responsible owner.
That’s someone who can’t handle losing control.
Billionaires, Bullying, and Tax Write-Offs
That’s the game these billionaires play — they present themselves as saviors while their teams stagnate, and they cry poverty while claiming tax write-offs at the expense of everyday people.
Every million they “lose” is just another clever tax maneuver that the public pays for.
And all the while, they talk about fans as if we’re just inconvenient noise — or worse, as one billionaire I met so charmingly put it: “bags of chemicals.”
This Fight Isn’t Going Away
This time, it’s different.
This time, someone they wrote off as insignificant is making sure they can’t hide forever.
I’m filing my cancellations against their unused trademarks — in the U.S., U.K., and EU — and submitting new New York Cosmos marks that reflect what the club could and should be.
And I’ll submit every shred of evidence to the USPTO to show what they’ve done — including what happened with Wefunder — so they see the full picture.
They’ll kick and scream for a few years, sure.
But they won’t win.
And if they think this will make me back off, they don’t know who they’re dealing with.
The CIC — Football Is For The Fans
That’s why I’ve put my energy into something real.
I’ve just incorporated Football Is For The Fans CIC — a Community Interest Company built to support the people billionaires like Rocco would rather discard:
✅ Sidelined players who deserve a second chance
✅ Coaches and managers who never got their shot
✅ Fans who were told they don’t matter
And we’ll do this properly — applying for funding, launching real grassroots initiatives, and telling the world what this game could look like if it wasn’t run by egos.
And if Rocco and Dentons want to send more lawyers after a CIC built for fans and community?
Let them try.
Building the Future — Without Them
We’ll revive the spirit of teams like the Cosmos, Aztecs, Sting, and Diplomats — and do it properly, with a professional touring league across the U.S. and U.K. that celebrates history and gives power back to the people who make this sport matter.
That’s the legacy that scares them — a football system they don’t control. We are actively raising $2.5m through our Data Room now.
And it’s exactly why I’ll never stop.
Worst thing for a bully like Rocco? Going after someone who was bullied so much as a teenager that I thought about ending it all — someone who knows what it’s like to fight back with nothing to lose.
So go build a statue of yourself in Florence, Rocco.
The fans and I will be too busy building the future of football without you.
